An Appetite for Life, Love, Food and Wine
By Liese & Mandy
Susan and Michelle have an appetite for life and everything joyful in it – love, food, and wine. We learned that from the moment we met, charmed by their fun-loving personalities. They also share a love for Susan’s 11-year-old son, Ian, who is a large part of their lives together. The wedding they desired would be a celebration of all these things and more.
At Bluxome Street Winery we created a design centered on the rustic elements of wineries such as oak casks and wood pallets, and also the fall colors the wedding flowers -- deep orange, sienna and sage green.
After a traditional Jewish ceremony under a chuppah we designed at the winery, the couple’s more than 120 guests spilled out into the reception. After a plated first course, guests enjoyed food stations offering gourmet fare inspired by the couple’s favorite San Francisco restaurants and recreated by JJardine Catering and Events. Stations included a crudo bar, steak with different sauces and crispy fries, and a “trashy chic” station featuring sliders, mac ’n cheese, and pigs in a blanket, charcuterie and cheese.
Guests enjoyed a memory wall created with photos.
A beautiful cake adorned with orange flowers was served along with gourmet cupcakes. And with so many children in attendance, we also created a cake and sundae bar from Mitchell’s, a local ice cream institution, manned by ice cream “baristas” wearing authentic Mitchell’s baseball caps.
This joyful experience was meant to continue on long after the party as the guests favors indicated. Party favors were orange “coozies” stuffed with Ghirardelli Chocolates noting the wedding information. The choice of a coozie suggests Susan and Michelle’s love would be accompanying many guests to more San Francisco events!
